POLITICAL SCIENCE, HISTORY, GOVERNMENT AND ECONOMICS SCHOLARSHIPSDR. AURA-LEE A. PITTENGER AND JAMES HOBBS PITTENGER AMERICAN HISTORY SCHOLARSHIP—A scholarship in the amount of $2,000 each year for up to four consecutive years to a graduating high school senior who will have a concentrated study of a minimum of 24 credit hours in American History or American Government, while in college. This award is intended to promote the study of history among our finest students. United States citizens residing abroad may apply through a Units Overseas Chapter. DEADLINE: February 15. ENID HALL GRISWOLD MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP—A one-time $1,000 scholarship awarded to a deserving junior or senior enrolled in an accredited college or university in the United States who is majoring in Political Science, History, Government, or Economics. DEADLINE: February 15. J.E. CALDWELL CENTENNIAL SCHOLARSHIP—A one-time $2,000 scholarship awarded to outstanding students pursuing a course of graduate study in the field of historic preservation. This award is made possible through J.E. Caldwell and Co., official jewelers of the NSDAR, in honor of the DAR Centennial. This scholarship is funded directly by Caldwell and is awarded during Continental Congress. DEADLINE: February 15. NURSING SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIPSThese are one-time awards of $1,000. It is only necessary to submit one application for consideration for any award in this group or for the Madeline Picket Halbert Cogswell Nursing Scholarship listed under Special Scholarships. CAROLINE E. HOLT NURSING SCHOLARSHIP—A one-time $1,000 scholarship for students who are in financial need and have been accepted or are currently enrolled in an accredited school of nursing. A letter of acceptance into the Nursing Program or the transcript stating that the applicant is enrolled in the Nursing Program must be included with the application. DEADLINE: February 15. MILDRED NUTTING SCHOLARSHIP—A one-time $1,000 scholarship for students who are in financial need and who have been accepted or are currently enrolled in an accredited school of nursing. A letter of acceptance into the Nursing Program or the transcript stating that the applicant is in the Nursing Program must be enclosed with the application. Preference will be given to candidates from the Lowell, MA area. DEADLINE: February 15. OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY SCHOLARSHIP—A one-time $1,000 scholarship for students who are in financial need and have been accepted or are attending an accredited school of Occupational Therapy including art, music, or physical therapy. A letter of acceptance into the Occupational Therapy Program or the transcript stating the applicant is in the Occupational Therapy Program must be included with the application. DEADLINE: February 15. MEDICAL SCHOLARSHIPSThese awards are in the amount of $5,000 annually for up to four years, with a maximum of $20,000 total. These awards are available only in consecutive four-year increments. It is necessary to submit only one application for consideration for any award in this group. IRENE AND DAISY MACGREGOR SCHOLARSHIP—A $5,000 scholarship awarded for up to four years to students of high scholastic standing and character who have been accepted into or are pursuing an approved course of study to become a medical doctor (no pre–med) at an approved, accredited medical school. It is also available to students who have been accepted into or who are pursuing an approved course of study in psychiatric nursing, graduate level, at medical schools, colleges or universities. There is a preference to females “if equally qualified.” DEADLINE: April 15. ALICE W. ROOKE SCHOLARSHIP—A $5,000 scholarship awarded for up to four years to students who have been accepted into or who are pursuing an approved course of study to become a medical doctor (pre–med does not qualify) at approved, accredited medical schools, colleges, and universities. DEADLINE: April 15. DR. FRANCIS ANTHONY BENEVENTI MEDICAL SCHOLARSHIP—A preferred amount $5,000 scholarship awarded for up to four years for a student either attending or planning to attend an approved, accredited medical school, college, or university. The applicant must have a minimum GPA of 3.25. This scholarship is not automatically renewable; however, recipients may reapply for consideration each year for up to four consecutive years, pending receipt of proof of continued enrollment, and after the first semester, an annual transcript review indicating a minimum GPA of 3.25. DEADLINE: April 15. SPECIFIC SCHOLARSHIPSMARGARET HOWARD HAMILTON SCHOLARSHIP—A $1,000 scholarship awarded for up to four years to a graduating high school senior who has been accepted into the Harvey and Bernice Jones Learning Center, housing the Ben D. Caudle Learning Program, University of the Ozarks, Clarksville, Arkansas. Applications must be requested directly from the Learning Center upon acceptance into their program for learning disabled students. DEADLINE: April 15. LILLIAN AND ARTHUR DUNN SCHOLARSHIP—A $2,000 scholarship awarded for up to four years to well qualified, deserving sons and daughters of members of the NSDAR for four years of college. Outstanding recipients will be considered for an additional period of up to four years of study. DAR member number of mother (who is a current, dues paying member) must be on the application. DEADLINE: February 15. MADELINE PICKETT HALBERT COGSWELL NURSING SCHOLARSHIP—A one-time $1,000 scholarship for students who have been accepted or are currently enrolled in an accredited school of nursing, who are members of NSDAR, descendants of members of NSDAR, or are eligible to be members of NSDAR (must be established). A letter of acceptance into the Nursing Program or the transcript stating that the applicant is in the Nursing Program must be included with the application. DAR member number must be on the application. DEADLINE: February 15. NELLIE LOVE BUTCHER MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP shall be given annually to a male or female music student who is pursuing an education in piano or voice. Special consideration shall be given to students currently attending the Duke Ellington School of the Performing Arts, Washington, DC. This substantial scholarship is for one year, and is not automatically renewable; however, recipients may reapply for consideration each year for four years based on maintaining a 3.0 grade point average. ARTHUR LOCKWOOD BENEVENTI LAW SCHOLARSHIP—A one-time preferred amount $2,000 scholarship awarded to a student who is either enrolled in or attends an accredited law school and has a minimum GPA of 3.25. The scholarship is not automatically renewable and recipients may reapply for consideration each year. DEADLINE: April 15. MARY ELIZABETH LOCKWOOD BENEVENTI MBA SCHOLARSHIP—A one-time preferred amount $2,000 scholarship for a student attending graduate school full time in an accredited college or university and majoring in business administration. The applicant must have a minimum GPA of 3.25. The scholarship is not automatically renewable; however, recipients may reapply for consideration each year. DEADLINE: April 15. WILLIAM ROBERT FINDLEY GRADUATE CHEMISTRY SCHOLARSHIP—A one-time preferred amount $2,000 scholarship for a student attending graduate school full time in an accredited college or university and majoring in chemistry. The applicant must have a minimum GPA of 3.25. The scholarship is not automatically renewable; however, recipients may reapply for consideration each year. DEADLINE: April 15. MICHAEL T. AND MARY L. CLOYD SCHOLARSHIP—A one-time only, preferred amount award of $3,000 to a student with a minimum 3.0 average at the third year level of undergraduate study or studying at the graduate level studying in the field of library science. DEADLINE: February 15. EDWARD G. AND HELEN A. BORGENS ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY TEACHER EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIPS—Two one-time, preferred amount awards of $1,500 for students twenty-five (25) years of age or older. One award is given to students studying to teach at the elementary school level, the other to students studying to teach at the secondary level. All applicants must have at least a 3.50 GPA, be at least a college sophomore, and attend or plan on attending an accredited college or university. The award is based on academic merit and is not automatically renewable, though recipients may reapply for consideration as long as they meet the eligibility requirements. DEADLINE: April 15.
