Genealogy Research
The DAR is home to one of the premier genealogical resource centers in the United States and members across the country are passionate ambassadors for genealogical preservation and research. Some of these significant resources can be accessed below.
Genealogical Research System (GRS)
The Genealogical Research System (click here to open) includes the following DAR online databases:
- Ancestor Database - Search the names of Revolutionary War Patriots whose service and identity have been established by the NSDAR.
- Member Search - contains basic information about members and the patriots they have proven lineage.
- Descendants Database – Searchable index of every name found on the lineage page of submitted DAR applications and supplementals.
- GRC Database -The GRC Database is an every name index of the GRC Books housed in the DAR Library. Currently, volunteers to the Genealogical Research Committee have indexed 20 percent of the books and have entered more than 20 million names.In addition to searching the GRC National Index from the GRS, it may be searched directly from the DAR public web site.
- Resources Links – Links to DAR and non-DAR online resources for further research, including:
- Lineage Research Lookup Volunteers (LRLV) Board includes sources that Lineage Research volunteers will search to find needed documentation for prospective member applications. New sources are constantly being added to the LRLV Board’s web site. In addition to searching the LRLV Board through the GRS, the board may be accessed directly from the Lineage Research Committee web site.
- Non-DAR online resources
- DAR Library Online Catalog - In late 1998 the Library's book collection numbered some 150,000 volumes, the cataloging records for which constitute this catalog. Approximately 5,000 new titles enter the Library in any given year. In addition to searching the library catalog through the GRS, the catalog may also be accessed from the DAR public site.
