Descendants Project

Sample Application The Descendants Project started in the fall of 2004. Project volunteers are building a database from the lineages found on the application papers. The resulting database of the patriot and their spouse, patriot’s child and their spouse, and the patriot’s grandchild and their spouse is then available for searching.

The volunteers view the application online on a secure website and data enter the information from page two of the application into a database. Volunteers are assigned 10 applications to do at a time and are given 10 days to enter the 10 applications. Data entry can be done 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, at the volunteer’s convenience.

From October 2004 through June 2010, all available applications from national number 275,001 through 878639 and Add Volumes 1-978 were entered and verified. We are completing approximately 3,500 applications per week. You can check out the results in the Genealogy Research area of the DAR Members’ Web Site. Click the DAR Genealogy Research System (GRS) link and then the Descendants tab.
